[captive] The captive creature made no response. It shifted and squirmed under the suns rays as we tortured it with the magnifying glass. "You're right," said Johnny, "catterpillers really don't talk."
Caught in between the two men she stared wildly this way and that. If she ran she was certain to be caught but if she waited, bided her time then she might leave it too late before she reached the others. They'd be worried about her already, she knew, but not so much they would stop. It wasn't safe, they knew that.
