Work Safe

I reckon it shouldn't be too hard to make a LiveJournal template to match our Intranet site at work, right down to putting the company logo at the top.

Anyone know how I can have one style for viewing at work, and another for normal use everywhere else?

You can only have one default style, but you can have more than one and just have links to the others, which is what I do.

Be aware that skip forwards/back n posts will only work in your default style: if you have the link on a non-default page, it'll just open the default instead.

I have not a clue about S2, I use S1. In S1, you do it here.

Okay, I'm probably missing something obvious, but I can't see how to display the page in a non-default style (S1 or S2). I've been through the FAQ and I don't see it mentioned.

What URL do you use?

In S1, you go to http://www.livejournal.com/modify.bml and you get a list of possible styles, which will be the default ones and any that you have defined.

To create a new style, go to http://www.livejournal.com/styles/create.bml - it's easier if you choose one to base it on, wither a default style or some that someone else has created and made public.

Once you've created a new style, go to http://www.livejournal.com/styles/edit.bml to edit it.

All of those should be links from http://www.livejournal.com/styles/ though. If you aren't getting them, it may be that you're using S2 - go to http://www.livejournal.com/customize/ and check.

I am indeed using S2. This may be my problem, though it's supposed to be able to do everything S1 could, only better.

I've created a custom template which looks very cool, but is a bit too obvious if I spend too much time browsing at work. Would like to do another template which looks a bit like our Intranet, and does things like stripping out usericons.

It may be that I have to do it a totally different way, but if I could see an example URL for a non-default style, it would be helpful.

I'm sure there must be a commuinity of S2 style developers who can tell me how to do this in an instant.

Thanks,

James

Ah, ok. Didn't realise you were on S2.

I had a very quick play around with it once, but wandered back to S1 when I couldn't even figure out how to change comment links!

It's very nice, but you kinda have to know what you're doing. If there's an S2 style that suits you, than you can customise it fairly easily.

If you don't like any of the default ones (or like them, but want something that can't be done just by changing colours), then you can create one from scratch (or, mor probably by modifying an existing one). But to do this, you really need to know HTML and a little bit of programming.

Haha! Found it out (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kunzite1 on [livejournal.com profile] lj_style). You can us the "s2id" parameter to specify a custom S2 style. For example:
