Irish Citizenship

In Ireland we have a habit of bundling elections together. There is a lot of publicity about the forthcoming European and Local Elections, but almost hidden with the other two elections is a proposed change to the Irish constitution. If passed, it will lead to a fundamental change to the definition of the word "Irish".

In my opinion this will unnecessarily and unfairly exclude people that I believe our society needs, which is why I believe it must be opposed.

I have more to say on the topic, but for now I recommend reading Maura McHugh's excellent article on the subject.

interesting read - thanks. [Unknown site tag] and I have been over in Co Galway for a few days, and were wondering what it was all about - RTE Lyric (or whatever they're called) were running occasional ads saying that people should vote.

although mostly they were telling us about the banking scandal!
