Spinning Class: 1; James: Nil

I tried my first spinning class at the gym, and boy did I feel unfit!

For those who don't know, spinning is sort of aerobics on an exercise bike. The class was 45 minutes and by the end of it I was in agony.

I realised I was in trouble when the instructor said:

Instructor: Just two minutes left...
Me: Phew
Instructor: ...of the warm-up
Me: Oh F***!

At the moment I have the warm glow of acomplishment. I'm sure it will be replaced by the warm pain of stiff muscles in the morning!

I'm glad I started on the 45min clas instead of the hour class, and I'm not even going to think about the 2.5 hour cycle marathon on Saturday mornings!

Well, I arrive in your fair town this evening (Friday) for a family wedding ... I get into Dublin around 18:30 then up near you to my brother's for an evening meal then over to Duleek where we (my mother and I) are staying with my aunt Friday night.

Saturday is the wedding and Saturday night is staying in the reception hotel, then back up near you for Sunday lunch (can you recommend anywhere nearby?) and back to the airport for a 6pm flight back to London City.

Probably not worth sorting out meeting up, but if you're going to be anywhere on Friday night or Sunday lunchtime then give me a call/text on +44 776 990 3675 and if I can get away I will.

I'm trying to get fit enough for spinning. It looks scary.

That's exactly what I thought. Worth giving a try, when you feel ready. And, as [livejournal.com profile] sneerpout says, you can take it at your own pace. During some of the standy-up bits I had to sit down to take a rest.

Spinning rocks! I'd do it every day if I could! And trust me - it will get easier. Take it at your own pace to start, you're under no obligation to add lots of resistance until you feel ready to do so.

However, the thought of 2.5 hour cycle marathons is giving me the fear. This isn't a spin class, is it? [quakes]

I'll definately do it again. It was good fun (apart from the pain).

I'm not sure about the Saturday class. I've never actually seen it, just someone mentioned it. It is on the spinning bikes, but I suspect they take it at a slightly gentler pace. Either that or they're just insane!
