lostcarpark: (Lego T-Rex eating Jar-Jar)

I guess this is old news, but I mustn't have been paying attention. His greatness, George W. Bush, leader of the free world is coming to visit Ireland in June. Our own great leader, Bertie Ahern has urged the Irish people not to protest against the visit.

Why would anyone want to protest, anyway? Surely we should be bowing down in the streets before his greatness in appreciation of his great deeds, freeing the people of Afghanistan from the evil Taliban, and the people of Iraq from the evil Saddam. Surely we all realise how much freeer we all are as a result of the war against terrorism. And how we bask in that freedom every time we board a plane to the United States.

But one of the greatest freedoms we enjoy is the right to protest publicly. Therefore by exercising that right, we are showing the great leader our appreciation for the freedoms that his great nation protects. What greater tribute could we pay than to show our gratitude for that freedom? It is, in fact, our duty to be at Shannon Airport on June 26th holding the biggest, meanest anti-Bush placards we can muster, so that he will know how thankful we all are for that freedom.
