lostcarpark: (Lego Manga Figure)

Just saw an ad on TV for a silent ring tone that claims it can't be heard by parents and teachers (it does so by using a frequency of 17kHz - last I tested I could hear at least to 20kHz, thank you very much).

It seems to be aimed at kids and teenagers, but at the bottom of the screen it clearly states "must be 18+".

Go figure.

Wow they are charging for that now.

It started in england when some shops started using a device that played noise at that frequency to stop kids hanging around outside the shop.

Some kids recorded it, then used it as a ringtone, that teachers couldn't hear in class!

just goes to show how resourceful some people can be.

I tried the version that was on the Times Online site and I had absolutely no problem hearing it. Nor did the dog. Very annoying it is, too.

But seeing as I am the the dying days of my fourth decade, I am oddly pleased by this.

Ah, but are you a parent (or a teacher)?

True, but I am tempted to go out and get a hoodie and an Asbo.

Or as my 14 yr old daughter said "could they not just put the phone on slient and vibrate - and therefore not pay anything?"
