Today's episode was absolutely top notch, just what the Doctor ordered. In fact the two part story was in my opinion on par with the very best original episodes.
Minor science quibbles: first, a solar flare is not going to blast a building on Earth like a lightening bolt seconds after it reaches the Earth, though it would affect weather patterns in subsequent weeks and months, which may well lead to thunderstorms (but they'll be a lot harder to predict). Second, how exactly did the Doctor's DNA get transmitted by said thunderbolt? Oh, I forgot, it's Doctor Who.
The first human Dalek was brilliant, as were the show girl and her pig of a boyfriend.
While a two-parter in the new format is probably equivalent to four old half hour episodes, I did feel this story had oodles of potential for further expansion, and a three or four part story could easily have arisen. An extra episode could have allowed extra room to expand the role of the human daleks. I'm sure they could have been given a whole episode to the human Daleks, who didn't get to do very much.
Oh and (bit of a spoiler here) Dalek Can escaping was a nice touch. Is that Can (as in can-do) or Kahn (as in Genghas Kahn or Kahn from Star Trek) or maybe Cain (as in Cain who killed his brother Abel) or Kane (as in Citizen Kane). I liked the way that wired into the computer it looked very like the first Dalek from the episode of the same name. The idea that this could be the Dalek the Christoper Ecclestone Doctor met is intriguing, but doesn't seem very likely. I think we can be confident that the Daleks will be back.
