I've just noticed that I somehow booked my flight for jamesb's wedding into Stanstead airport instead of Gatwick. No biggie, it just means about an extra hour on the train, but it is possibly my least favourite airport in the universe.
Stansted is our airport of choice. I only wish there were more long hauls from there. On the other hand, it does have a decent range of short haul destinations, though too many of them are via Ryanair.
Something I've learned to appreciate over the years is the virtue of small airports. My favourite London airport is City. Shame Dublin doesn't have something similar.
I've been flying via Stansted since it was a lot smaller. It's managed to expand without turning into the maze that Heathrow or Gatwick can be - I think the very high ceilings (which disperse the noise) and very obvious layout (makes it easy to know where you are and where to go) help a lot in making it less stressful than the big two.
Nicest recent airport? Oslo. Though Haneda in Tokyo is worth visiting in its own right, if only to ride the monorail out from the city. Actually, Haneda is more like a good mall that just happens to have check-ins - it's certainly got some nice little restaurants there.
Least favourite? Well, there may be a reason we now take the ferry into Dun Laoghaire.
