Perhaps foolishly, I have become involved in next year's Octocon. I think with a cool new venue and a fantastic guest of honour (Tanith Lee) we've got a good basis for a great convention.
We've got a lot of plans for the next year, and pretty much the first step is getting the website up and running. We had a pretty ugly information page up while I was working on the new design. But now the new design is ready and active and waiting for you all to come and visit it. Of course, like all websites, it is a work in progress, and there will be lots of new information to add during the year.
Membership is just €20/£15 until the end of October (with a special dispensation for Novacon, so coller Dave Lally if you're there).
On a pure geekery note, this is my first site to go live using a full CSS2 implementation. This means there are no tables in the design whatsoever (apart from one that's used for the sort of thing tables are intended for). If you care about such things, view the source and see for yourself. It has some advantages in terms of being more accessably for text readers and PDAs, as well as making the HTML slightly smaller for download. And there are a few things that are nearly impossible with tables but dead easy with CSS. It was a bit of a pain testing it in all the major browsers to get it to look reasonably consistent, but the same is true of any site. No that the design is stable, updates should be easier.
The site can be found here.
