Day Off

Took the day off work. It's really nice to have a day off in the middle of the week, but I've had so many three or four day weeks recently that it's going to be hard to go back to full weeks.

The main reason for taking today off was to get the car serviced. It's due to be NCT'd (the Irish version of the MOT) on Thursday morning, but I wanted to have an extra day in case anything unexpected turned up.

It's nice to see Jack in the mornings. Usually I'm gone before he's awake, or if he is awake I just turn on the cartoons for him as I'm rushing out for the train. We dropped him to his Montessori school. Then we left my car into the garage.

Then, in a bold move, [livejournal.com profile] madangie and I went to the church and had a chat with the parish priest. He's agreed to marry us! Actually, he seemed delighted. Apparently most of the requests he gets are from people who've moved here from Dublin who want to get married in their former parishes. This means he gets lots of paperwork but not many weddings in his church.

He gave us a form that had to be filled out to make the marriage legal, and a list of things we have to get. We have to get baptism certificates and do a pre-marriage course. So we've got the church booked and the hotel booked. Now we've got to pare down the list of people we'd like to invite into the list of people we can afford to invite...

We did a couple of other mundane things and then picked Jack up and went home for some lunch. Picked the car up, and am assured that it's all set to pass its test. I'm less than 100% confident, as almost everybody I know has had had to go back for something.

Took Jack to McDonalds for dinner (they have some rather nice Noddy toys at the moment) as he had been good and he had received a gift voucher for his Birthday. Then Angie left us for a hair appointment and Jack and I went to the park. Unfortunately our visit was somewhat shortlived, and Jack was getting tired and cranky, and he had a little accident so we went home to change him.

A purple dinosaur allowed me to escape to the computer for a while, then we got back into the car to fetch Angie. Jack was then bundled into bed and had Winnie the Pooh read to him.

Tomorrow, of course, it's back to the office. Oh well.
