Thanks for the head's up. I stripped the URLs out of my journal, is that sufficient to prevent further mischief from third parties, or do I have to do something more pro-active like password changing?

It should be. Make sure you've got the latest security updates applied to your PC. There is no way the perpretators could get your LJ password - they just rely on the fact thay you're logged in to use JavaScript to create an entry.
