Sep. 29th, 2004 10:29 amSome time in the next couple of hours, Space Ship One will be making the first run of its X-Prize attempt. It should be a good day, and another milestone in the quest to open up space to the masses.
We're still very much at the "barnstorming" stage of development, and this illustration really shows how much the craft is just a plane with a big rocket strapped on the back. It may be a relatively safe rocket, but a rocket nonetheless.
Of course, the ante has been upped in recent days by the arrival of Virgin, who plan to commercialise the whole venture and produce a 5-man craft. I can't wait to have a go.
