So you no longer need to worry for may safety. The contents were not Semtex, but actually a Psion 5mx I'd bought on eBay and had repaired. It was going to be a backup for my main one, which I'm terified of losing as I'd really miss it. Broken ones tend to go for around £20-30 eBay, and getting them fixed costs around £50, making it quite economic to have a spare sitting around.
