[livejournal.com profile] madangie got a second mobile phone a couple of months back, to have one for work and one for personal life. And this month switched her original phone to the same network (when her previous contract expired). She has some trouble with one of the handsets, so all in all she ended up with four phones and three SIM cards, and a slightly confusing mix of numbers on the phones and on the SIM cards.

This gave me a chance to play with a gadget I got on eBay a couple of months back. You plug a SIM card in one side, and the other side plugs into a USB port, and its software allows you to transfer numbers between the SIM and the computer. So I was able to transfer all the numbers to the computer, sort them, remove duplicates, remove old contacts and copy them back to both SIMs.

And it has a feature to add international codes to all numbers, which comes in handy when you're roaming.

Neat.

I used to have a device just like that, except it worked serially instead of over USB. It needed you to insert the SIM into a wee cardholder first, then put it into the reader, though.

And of course we lost the cardholder. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
