House Hunt Part 2
Jun. 30th, 2003 07:27 amSo, on Saturday we trekked up to Drogheda to continue the house hunt. The new motorway opened on Friday (hurrah). This made a huge difference. We called to my parents house first. It used to take well over an hour, but we got there in about fifty minutes. We like motorways.
The first house was quite nice. It had a very spacious kitchen/dining room. It would need a little decorating, but that's probably why the price was very reasonable. The downsides were that it was a little further from the railway station than we'd like (there's a possibility of a North Drogheda station being opened, but we could be waiting till next century for that), and the space in front of the house. It was a piece of waste ground, that we don't know what's going to happen to. It might be developed with more houses (which would be an annoyance during the development) or for all we know someone could build a factory there. Even if it's just left, it's rather unsightly. Of course, the flip side is it could become a park or something.
After that, we had about an hour before the next viewing, so we went into Drogheda to have a look around. Angie had been saying on the way out that she looked forward to moving to an area where she knew hardly anyone. Then, as soon as we stepped out of the car, she bumped into the cousin of one of her best friends. Small world.
Next, we were viewing two houses a on the same street. They were in a huge estate, and we got lost trying to find the right part ot it. One of the reasons I'm not keen on huge estates. Of the two, we liked the second one better. It was semi-detached and quite spacious, and well decorated.
Then we went for a second look at the house we'd most liked last week, and it's still totally wonderful. The garden is just amazing. Everything in the house is fabulous. They'd done a lot of nice things, such as replacing the internal doors with ones with frosted glass, and adding skylight windows to the Kitchen. And the landscaping of the garden was still fabulous. We oohed and aahed for quite a while, which is propably a really bad thing to do with the estate agent watching. And then we discovered that the estate agent knows my mother. Small world.
We had another break before the next viewing, so we went for lunch in a local greasy food joint. I had a "snack box meal" (which arrived on a plate rather than in a box) and Angie had a chicken filet burger. Far too many calories, but very yummy.
Than we say two more houses that were around the corner from each other. here is the one I managed to find online even though they're both with the same estate agent. It was actually the other one we preferred, though they look very similar from the outside. It had three really big bedrooms and one reasonable sized one, and a fantastic kitchen. The garden was lovely, with a nice decked area and a well kept lawn. The only flaw is that the most logical office space was very small. It's now a close race between this and the one we saw a second time as to which is our favourite.
So we took the motorway back to town, with much to think about. I think we have a pretty good idea of what we'd like, so we now have to find out what we can afford.
It's all very exciting!
