In my humble opinion, that was the best episode so far this year. I can't wait for part 2. If the second part lives up to the first, it could very well be the best episode of the new series. I anticipate Hugo nominations.

I must get hold of the Paul Cornell novel of the same name!

I didn't like "Father's Day" at all, but yesterday's episode *felt* right. I'd like to see the novel. Given that the novels have traditionally allowed the writers to deal with the Matter of Who in a more sophisticated manner than has been the case in the direct to screen material, perhaps there should be more interpretations from the NA/LA.

I have to admit to having read the novel but it didn't leave a lasting impression. I'm planning on watching the episode on the plane later.

Interesting. It strikes me as the sort of story that if you read in a novel you might think, "nice story. Shame it's not really canon."

I really must pick up some of the "off air period" novels, as I gather that's also where the whole time war comes from.
