Book

Just finished reading The Sheep Look Up by John Brunner. I must say it's one of the best books I've read in a while. Published in 1972, the parallels to current events are rather uncanny. In the wake of environmental disaster and a (percieved) terrorist threat, the US administration behaves in a startlingly similar way to the current government. I recommend it.

Also sci-fi related, the Sci-Fi Club seemed to go well, despite not having a formal speaker. Was a bit slow starting, but by 9PM there was a good crowd. James Brophy had brought a CD with the animated Clone Wars episodes, which I played on my laptop. Unfortunately I had to leave for my train at ten, so I didn't get to play the final episode. I also had to leave them to run the raffle without me.

Four days to snowboarding!

Oh, by the way, yet another new icon...

Phew!

The trains are working again this morning. The poor sick crane is still dangling next to the line (wish I'd had camera ready to snap a pic as we passed), but it's being supported by two tall mobile cranes, with a third standing by. I think the very end bit of the broken arm might even have been removed.

This makes me really rather glad, as it's a horrible wet morning, and I really wasn't looking forward to the 20 min walk from Pearse station.

Of course, now I have got to work, the rain has cleared and the sun started to come out, and there's even a little blue sky showing.
