Word count continues to creep up. It's nowhere near as fast as I'd like, but hopefully I can pick up the pace as the month wears on. I've finished one chapter, and have started into a second, and I think there is a plot running through them. The chapters run through consecutive days, and I resisted the temptation to put a dream sequence between them, but I suspect it's only a matter of time...

Further down the road, I think I have something resembling an overall plan for the novel, though the ending still isn't as solid as I'd like.

Oh, and if anyone can suggest interesting ways of getting into trouble (or getting someone else into trouble) at school, it would be a big help.

One of my colleagues just came out with a good school story, in the "mildly in trouble" way.

The whole class was acting up, and the teacher said that that was it, the next person who so much as wiggled their ears was going to the principal. So my colleague stuck his hand up and asked "What if you can't wiggle your ears?" and was promptly thrown out.
