I still don't do memes. Honest.
1. When did you first connect ("go online"), and how?
First had access to email and Usenet through college in 1989, though paranoia among the network administrators meant it was at a very restricted level. Also used local BBS that had email gateway around 1990.
2. What was your first communications program?
Er, Mail and News on VAX.
Can't remember the name of the comms program on a very old XT.
3. When did you first chat over the internet, and how?
Had chat on the VAX at college, but that was only within the different college campuses. First Internet chat would probably have been ICQ around 1995/96.
4. What chat type program(s) do you use now?
Trillian (beats having four separate chat clients). And the odd Java-based chat room.
5. Who was your first service provider?
Was connected through various college and work service, but my first provider was Ireland On-Line in 1995, who I'm still with, although they have changed hands several times, and are now owned by BT.
6. Did you ever use AOL?
Nope.
7. Do you admit using AOL in public?
I have nothing to hide. :-)
8. Who is your current ISP?
Still IOL (EsatBT), and looks likely to stay that way, as their ADSL options seems to be the one that suits me best.
9. What was the first computer that you used to access the 'net?
VT100 connected to VAX.
At home, a 100MHz 486DX4 running Windows 3.1, Eudora and Netscape 1.0.
10. What computer do you use to access the 'net today?
At work: Dell P4.
At home: By home built Athlon XP2100+ which hums away in it's dark-metallic-grey case 24 hours a day.
11. What was your first 'net handle?
jshields
12. Did you use any other handles for any length of time? If so, what were they?
Used Cheesecake in chat rooms for a while.
13. What 'net handle do you normally use now?
lostcarpark nearly everywhere. It's great because it's not likely to be taken.
14. Are you active on any websites other than LJ? If you're willing to say, what ones?
http://www.lostcarpark.com (have to plug my own site)
I pop into a few hardware and programming forums from time to time.
The online dating site where I met my Angie, though not so much any more...
